Little House on the Prairie is a children’s book by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and edited by her daughter Rose Wilder Lane.  The book was published in 1935. It is considered historical fiction.  It is part of a series of books known collectively as the Little House series.  The books in the series are:

•Little House in the Big Woods (1932)
Farmer Boy (1933) – about her husband’s childhood on a farm in New York
•Little House on the Prairie (1935)
•On the Banks of Plum Creek (1937)
•By the Shores of Silver Lake (1939)
•The Long Winter (1940)
•Little Town on the Prairie (1941)
•These Happy Golden Years (1943)
•On the Way Home (1962)
•The First Four Years (1971)
 From Home (1974)
•The Road Back (2006)

The books are based on memories of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s childhood in the late 19th century.

From 1974 – 1983, a television series based on the Little House on the Pairie aired on NBC.  The main cast included:

Michael Landon as Charles Ingalls
Karen Grassle as Caroline Ingalls
Melissa Gilbert as Laura Ingalls
Melissa Sue Anderson as Mary Ingalls
Twins Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush played Carrie Ingalls.
